I wear many hats that I have synthesized into a love for training women to be the best versions of themselves- however that may look for them. I am an orthopedic and women's health physical therapist with a passion for strength and conditioning, weightlifting, CrossFit and all things fitness. When working with women of all backgrounds, I strive to help them reach goals they might have thought impossible and feel empowered to take charge of their health! As I began treating more women with active backgrounds, I realized that the information for pregnant and postpartum athletes was lacking. At the 6 week check up postpartum, most women are cleared for "usual exercise". Well what if you were snatching 135# or running 10+ miles at a time or playing a competitive sport before pregnancy? Is it ok to go right back to that?! This was the question I kept being asked in clinic. So, I began focusing on women's health PT with strength and conditioning to help bridge this gap.

After I had my second baby earlier this year, my doula recommended that I get pelvic floor therapy with Dr. Jackie Varnum. I wasn’t familiar with this kind of therapy at first, but boy am I glad that I pursued it. Prior to the therapy, I was constantly leaking when I sneezed and my upper body (neck/shoulders/trap/back) were very soar due to nursing my son. My body was still healing after giving birth. During the program with Jackie, she gave me an exercise plan with strength and HIIT workouts that I could do at home. She also did some dry needling on my neck, back and shoulder that alleviated the tension in my muscles. I highly recommend dry needling! This treatment has resolved some strained muscles in my back. After a few weeks of the program, I stopped leaking and my body has become stronger and hurts less. I started running and easing back into exercising. With Jackie’s therapy program, my body feels great and I feel confident about going back to the gym, staying fit and continuing the exercises to enable my body to heal and rebuild itself.

As a female athlete in Atlanta, Dr. Jackie has been an invaluable resource for my health and wellbeing. She is highly knowledgeable in her field and communicates effectively promoting healthy and sustainable steps towards my overall fitness goals.

A coach and athlete herself, she is a trusted resource. She’s also down-to-earth and easy to talk to—which is important to me in choosing any healthcare professional to work with. I always feel comfortable heading into an appointment with Dr. Jackie and know I’ll leave the time having received incremental, educational, and actionable steps towards becoming my best self.

Most recently, Dr. Jackie walked me through pregnancy and postnatal health and wellness. I was able to maintain an excellent, safe, and healthy level of fitness throughout my entire pregnancy. I knew both me and my baby were in safe hands. Now postpartum, I feel confident in her instruction and resources as I continue my fitness journey. I can’t say enough great things about her as physical therapist!
